Sentience People Systems

Meeting new challenges and realising opportunities

Today, the industrial relations and human resource environment can offer some real challenges or great opportunities - it depends on how you are placed.  Management skill is a key factor in determining not only the success of a company but also it's very survival.  And central to this is people management -  including the ability to deal with emerging issues in your workplace.

Your employees face challenges too.  These include dealing with increasing temporariness and uncertainty, balancing work/life, conflict between employees and with management, and an increasing desire fo work to be fulfilling.

Sentience People Systems is all about helping both managers and staff adapt and thrive in the face of challenging workplaces.

The importance of good people dynamics

Managers:  You've heard it a thousand times - management is all about getting things done with and through other people.  But people management is complex and takes time, work, and patience.  Every activity involves dealing with, communicating with, and motivating people.  It has functions, it entails specific roles, and it requires practical and highly developed skills.  Every one of these activities can be seen as an 'intervention'.  The focus of Sentience People Systems is bringing our experience to management intervention so that the chances of success are improved from right from the start.

Staff:    Sometimes in life we can find ourselves in difficult situations and don't know where to turn.  Workplaces are no different - and often the stakes are pretty high while the choices people seem to be pretty limited.  And sometimes 'backing down' doesn't look like an option.  SPS is about helping people through these difficult situations - both psychologically and practically.  We can assist staff to identifiy options, consider alternatives, and find ways of moving forward.

The costs of poor people dynamics

There are a number of preventable costs for poor intervention and dificult , including:
  • Increased staff absenteeism / loss of productivity
  • Increased Workcover costs through stress, anxiety, depression, and claims of bullying (Justified and vexatious)
  • Increased negative and dysfunctional workplace behaviours
  • High turnover and loss of valued staff and the associated costs
  • Workplace conflict and confrontation
  • Increased complaints
These negatives can be reduced considerably when managers and staff are supported through difficult situations and increase their skills and confidence. SPS does this by helping all parties apply effective, systematic and flexible approaches to people dynamics.
